Chapter 16

Tyree lay in his hotel room staring at the ceiling. He could not believe his wife caught him behind closed doors with another woman. He was angry with himself for letting Rachel in his office after he’d determined to break it off with her. But an irresistible impulse aroused when Rachel offered herself to him. An impulse he could not deny. When Ariel entered she witnessed something Tyree would have never wished on his worst enemy. Him kissing Rachel.

He always felt guilty, remorseful, and depressed after he did his unfaithful deeds, but that never stopped him before things got started. He barely slept, tossing and turning all night thinking about how he could fix the mess he had gotten himself into. Tyree rose from the bed and slipped his shoes on. He didn’t bother taking a shower because he had no clothes to change into. He had to talk to someone, so he decided to call Jacob.

As the phone rang he paced the floor, waiting for Jacob to answer.

“Hello,” Jacob’s tone was dry.

“Hey, man. What’s up?” Tyree stuttered.

“What do you mean what’s up? If you take a glance out yo’ window you will see the sun ain’t even up yet. It’s six o’clock in the morning. What’s your problem, Tyree? Why are you waking up my house this early?”

“Umm… My bad. I didn’t realize the time,” Tyree didn’t think of checking the time before he called.

“Man whatever. What’s going on?’

Tyree didn’t feel like beating around the bush. “Ariel saw me kissing Rachel,” he said in a hurry.

“What!” Jacob gasped for breath and shouted at the same time. Tyree heard Jacob apologizing to his wife for waking her.

“Yup, she caught me again, in the act,” Tyree shook his head with embarrassment.

“I kind of figured that was going to happen. But how? How did she catch you?” Jacob asked, wanting to know.

Tyree told Jacob everything that went on and he felt even worse after repeating it to his friend.

“I cannot believe you are blaming it on Rachel. Talking about you felt sorry for her and that is why you kissed her. You need to stop putting the blame on others and take responsibly for your own actions.” Jacob said as if he was disciplining a child.

“Whose side are you on?” Tyree was livid. He rose from the bed and started pacing the floor again.

“I ain’t taking sides, I’m just saying. Tyree it’s about time you start accepting that you have a problem. You can’t keep blaming others for your wrong doings. I mean, just think about it.” Jacob cleared his throat and continued. “You cheated on Ariel with Missy and you told Ariel you cheated because you had to visit your son and Missy kept hassling you about having sex. But you’re a grown man, if you didn’t want to have sex with Missy you would have put her in her place and walked away.”

Tyree’s mind went back to what happened the night he’d had sex with Missy while he and Ariel were still newlyweds.
